Weller Slab Area

The area above Weller Campground has a lot of potential for first ascents if you are willing to hike a bit and clean a lot. A handful of problems have been established and many more are waiting to be done. As more problems are put up and cleaned I will add some topos and better directions.

Directions

Park at the pullout directly across the road from Weller Campground (if there isn' t room you can park at the Jaws/Weller Lake parking area and walk up the road to the campground). Walk through the campground to a trail located at the back of campsite #4 which will lead you to the base of a large talus field. Walk left, skirting the bottom of the talus. There are a few developed problems on some blocks, low in the talus and the potential for more. Once you reach the left edge of the talus, head up the hill. Exploration and rewards await...

Hernando's Hideaway

Hernando's Hideaway is a bit of an anomaly for bouldering on Independence Pass. HH is a small wall with a multitude of contrived problems and variations. It is overhung enough that it stays dry during those afternoon thunderstorms.

Directions

Park in the pullout just uphill from Weller Campground. Walk up the road to where the small cliff band and there is a clearing and a sign. Hike up the left side of the clearing then right over some slabby areas.
